What do owners ask first?

The main questions are about business fit, possible ownership choices, confidentiality and the process. The answers below explain the current approach and link to the detail.

Three things to know first

  • You do not need to decide to sell before talking
  • A full sale is not the only discussion route
  • Any next stage needs mutual agreement

Who you would be speaking to.

Is Black Tier an adviser or a broker?

No. Black Tier Capital is an investment and acquisition group. When we speak to an owner, it is because the group itself is interested in acquiring or investing in the business — we are not selling your business on to someone else, and we do not charge owners an advisory fee.

What kinds of businesses do you look at?

Established, owner-managed construction and building-services businesses, with an initial focus in and around London. The investment criteria set out what we look for in more detail.

Do you only look at businesses for sale?

No. Many of our conversations start with owners who are simply thinking ahead. There is no need to have made a decision.

Sale, stages or investment.

Do I have to sell the whole business?

Not necessarily. Some owners want a full sale, some want to step back in stages, and some want investment while they carry on running the business. The right structure depends on your priorities and is agreed case by case.

Will a first conversation commit me to anything?

No. A first conversation is simply an exchange to see whether there is a sensible fit. Nothing moves forward without your agreement, and you can stop at any point.

Size and location.

Do you publish a minimum business size?

Not at this stage. Rather than set an arbitrary threshold, we would prefer to have a short conversation and tell you honestly whether the business fits.

What if my business is outside London?

Our initial focus is in and around London. If you are further afield it is still worth a conversation — we will tell you plainly whether the location works.

What happens, and when.

What happens after I send an enquiry?

Your enquiry is saved securely and read personally. The form confirms when it has been saved, and we will reply by email to arrange a first conversation if it makes sense.

How long does the process take?

It varies with the business and with how quickly information can be shared. We will give you a realistic view of timing once we understand the business.

Can I stop the process?

Yes. You are free to stop at any point, and nothing moves to a further stage without your agreement.

Privacy and advisers.

Is my enquiry confidential?

Enquiries are read by the Black Tier team only and are not shared with third parties. If you would prefer a formal confidentiality agreement before sharing detail, tell us — it can be put in place before anything sensitive is exchanged.

Can an accountant or broker introduce a business?

Yes. Introducers and professional advisers are welcome. Terms are agreed separately and in advance — see introducers & advisers.

Start a private conversation.

Tell us a little about your business and what you are considering. There is no obligation, and nothing moves forward without your agreement.
